The Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz processor is the perfect pick for your HTPC costing roughly $58.99, youcannot go wrong with this Dual-Core 2 x 1MB L@ Cache Socket AM3 65W processor. This processor should be all the power you need to run your HTPC to its full extent.
The Asus M4A88T-M HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard includes 2×240 pin memory slots allowing up to a maximum of 8GB of Dual Channel DDR3 memory. A built in Audio chipset allowing 8 channels of sound using Realtek ALC887, and 6 x USB 2.0 real panel ports (5 onboard USB 2.0 ports), 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 port just in case you want to add a future graphics card for gaming etc, 1 x PCI express x1 port, and one PCI port.
So you are wanting to build a cheap basic HTPC build to set beside your entertainment system/television for your basic entertainment needs. This means that you can create a PC that will play full 1080p video but is missing all the fancy whistles such as a separate sound-card, tv-tuner, tv-recording, video encoding, video recording etc. This is not to say you cannot add them later, but for now let’s focus on what’s cheapest.
I would like to introduce another build you may consider building: The Home Theatre PC (HTPC). A HTPC is just a basic computer that is mostly of personal preference in terms of the added components, so when starting your HTPC build you want to include the basic components for building a PC which include:
1. A Computer Case: This is purely based on preference. You could purchase one that matches your theatre equipment etc.
2. Power Supply Unit (P.S.U): You want to buy a good quality PSU as your computer may be running many hours at a time.
