Gaming PC Build 2016 for October $600 $1000 and $1300

Introducing the October Gaming PC Builds 2016 of the Month

Here are the October 2016 Gaming PC Build arrangements – where we have three separate builds nicely laid out for you below in three separate budgets of $1300, $1000, $600. There are also hardware swap suggestions for each of those builds, realistically making these builds into six+ separate build combinations, whatever your budget or gaming performance goals may be.

We saw a ton of hardware announcements in the graphics cards department earlier this summer and it prices have now all stabilized and the new releases in graphics cards are now well within their MRSP price brackets – which is great news if you have been waiting for costs to go down for your upcoming build.

To give you a quick overview on which build may be a better fit for you – the $1300 build can be thought of for being for those wanting to game at resolutions of 1440p-4K, the $1000 build for resolutions of 1080p – 1440p and the $600 build being more standard for those gaming at standard 1080p resolutions.

Now on to the builds and as per usual best of luck building – and please feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have below.

Overview: Gaming PC Build ( $1500 )

The Extreme Gaming PC Build of the month is just that, for those gaming pc builders who want to get extreme performance and FPS at higher resolutions in high demanding games. Here is the October 2016 PC Build version, which you can expect to game smoothly in most games at monitor resolutions of anywhere from 1440p (2K) all the way into 4K. Also if you look a little further below there are hardware upgrades for this build that all increase performance a step further to either further solidify those higher resolutions or future games.

For the CPU, we have an Intel i5 6600K cpu and paired with it is a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cpu cooler. With the affordable Hyper 212, you should be able to overclocking the 6600K processor with no problems at all, and the temps will be kept at bay.

The true driver behind those high demanding games, is the ASUS GTX 1070 graphics card. This graphics card has so much potential and bang for your buck that you won’t regret including it as your main performance driver in this build for gaming. To give you an idea of some benchmarks of the GTX 1070 you can check out any of these fantastic reviews: Guru3DThe TechReport  – TomsHardware and many more.

For the all-mighty motherboard, we have the MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon, which includes everything you need with a few neat additions like Mystic Lighting, Gaming LAN and more. See the motherboard specifications below or learn more at MSI.com or if you want to read a solid review please check out bit-tech.com’s review on the MSI Z170 Gaming PRO Carbon.

The included RAM, we have 16GB (two 8GB sticks) with the included Ballistix Sport LT memory kit, which is plenty enough memory for most of any gaming pc builds.

The included storage is a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Solid State Drive “SSD”, which will perform much better helping with those load / boot times and reading speeds. This is a major bump in solid state storage as the builds budget now allows for this (as previously only 256GB SSD was included in this build). If you want an even greater boost in read / write speeds check out the Storage Upgrade solution in the hardware upgrades below for this pc build, as included there is an even faster PCIe SSD option.

For the Power Supplt Unit (PSU), included is the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, which gets the job done just the samehowever if you do  want a more power efficient pus of the same power capacity, then you do still have the option of the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 p2 for a tad more cash.

Finally, the gaming PC case included for the month of October 2016 is the Corsair Carbide Clear 400C case. A very clean modernistic case that just screams premium aesthetics. This case is a compact mid tower that looks fantastically sleek, of which I am a huge fan of. This case came out earlier this year and has been well received. To learn more visit Corsair.com or check out the video below done by HardwareCanucks, which let’s face it – always do a wonderful job at showing how well a pc case looks.

October 2016 (1440p to 4K) PC Build Upgrade Suggestions – ($1860 if all upgrades were included)

The hardware upgrades you see here are recommendations for the above 1440p – 4K PC build for October 2016. You can choose one or all of the hardware and it will be compatible with the above build and improve it’s performance in some way. Should you purchase all of the hardware upgrades instead of the alternatives already in the main build – then it will cost you around $1827 as of the start of the start of October 2016.

You can get an Intel i7 6700K cpu if you do things like video work, graphics work etc. since this isn’t really needed for pure gaming – plus this cpu is much cheaper than it used to be. This could also be a worthy upgrade for those wanting to further “future-proof” their high-end build.

The above gaming pc build includes a Samsung EVO 500GB SSD for storage, which is perfectly suited for most gamers, although below is a faster Samsung 950 PRO PCIe SSD, which has faster read / write times and also 500GB of storage – a real premium PCIe Solid State Drive.

If you want more than the included air cpu cooler included in the main build, then below is the Corsair Hydro Series H100i V2 liquid cpu cooler. This cooler would be a substitute for the above included Hyper 212 EVO air cpu cooler and would provide a quieter, more efficient / more customized cooling experience. This option would be best purchased now rather then later so as to save on buying only one cooler for your PC (learn more at corsair.com).

For the biggest gaming performance improvement out of the included hardware included in the alternative section, consider a GTX 1080 graphics card included as an alternative option to the GTX 1070 included in the main build for October 2016. The cost of this card is finally starting to come down, so it’s definitely a better time to purchase.

Overview: Gaming PC Build ( $1000 )

For just under $1000, you can get one kick but gaming PC build – playing all games maxed out at 1920×1080 resolutions and into 1440p / 2K resolutions smoothly and at high settings. This is the High-End gaming PC build, once that will probably cover most of any average gamers needs.

This build uses a combination of the Skylake Intel i5 6600K cpu and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cpu cooler (as you do need a cooler as there is no stock one included with the 6600k), plus the hyper 212 helps tremendously when oveclocking that unlocked 6600k processor leaving with tons of possibilities. As I mentioned in the build above – for those interested in educating themselves around overclocking you can check out a recent article from the TomsHardware CPU overclocking guide.

Throughout the earlier mid-half of 2016 we have been seeing a ton of graphics card releases and we now have two contenders for this specific build – that is the brand new NVIDIA GTX 1060 and the new AMD X 480 graphics cards. Both of these cards can be similar in cost and performance they do differ in specific games so please do look up some benchmarks (via Google or YouTube) for some of the games you may be interested in. For some links to such benchmarks please refer back to the introduction of this article.

The motherboard included again this month for the $1000 October 2016 PC Build is the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3.  The Gaming 3 motherboard has the following specifications (and you can learn more on the product page at gigabyte.com):

  • Supports 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor
  • Dual Channel DDR4, 4 DIMMs
  • Intel® USB 3.1 with USB Type-C™ – The World’s Next Universal Connector
  • 3-Way Graphics Support with Exclusive Ultra Durable Metal Shielding over the PCIe Slots
  • Dual PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 Connectors with up to 32Gb/s Data Transfer (PCIe NVMe & SATA SSD support)
  • 3 SATA Express Connectors for up to 16Gb/s Data Transfer
  • 115dB SNR HD Audio with Built-in Rear Audio Amplifier
  • Killer™ E2200 Gaming Networks
  • High Quality Audio Capacitors and Audio Noise Guard with LED Trace Path Lighting
  • APP Center Including EasyTune™ and Cloud Station™ Utilities
  • GIGABYTE UEFI DualBIOS™ Technology

The RAM included is the affordable kit of Ballistix Sport LT 8GB  kit, which is enough memory for most standard gaming pc builds, and you always have the option to upgrade more in the future if need be with the extra couple of slots on the included motherboard.

The included storage is the infamous and long standing Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. Should you require more then 250GB of storage right away you could also consider adding in a cheap 1TB HDD as a secondary drive or upgrading to the 500GB version / or the slightly faster SSD included in the hardware upgrades section below; of which I would recommend.

The included power supply unit (and for some time now in this build) used is the EVGA SuperNOVA G1 650W power supply, which is a great PSU with all modular cables and it provides the perfect amount of power for this build along with room for some upgrades. For it’s price, quality and the fact that it’s modular makes this a perfect choice.

There seems to be a theme this month as the PC cases are all sleek, modernistic beauties. The case included in the $1000 October 2016 Gaming PC Build is the NZXT S340 Mid Tower PC case (read the full features over at NZXT.com). This is a fantastic easy to build with case with all steel panels, great cable management, compact build witgh fully filtered intakes. I have included this case in previous builds as it came out well over a year ago  now and has proven strong contender in the pc case world since its release.

Want to see a full overview of the NZXT S340 please check out the LinusTechTips video is his Stuff that doesnt suck series:

October 2016 (1080p to 1440p) PC Build Upgrade Suggestions – ($1307 all inclusive)

Here are some upgrade ideas for your $1000 October 2016 pc build depending on your budget or future performance upgrade. This build could turn into a $1300 pc build should you actually incorporate all of the suggestions below in place of the same hardware in the main build table above.

For a further boost in graphics you could consider going straight for a GTX 1070 graphics card (released earlier this summer), which could max those games out in 2K without a hiccup enabling higher frame rates in more demanding games.

If you want more than the included 250GB storage SSD in the main build, you could consider bumping your SSD up to a slight faster 480GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD instead giving you nearly double the space – you can also note that this is an even higher performing SSD than the 500GB Samsung one included in the $1300 build for this month / which can also be a slightly cheaper 500GB SSD alternative.

You could also go with a liquid cpu cooler such as the Corsair Hydro Series H80i V2 in place of the Cooler Master HYper 212 EVO  air cooler already included in the above build. This could help keep things quiet and a tad cooler when overclocking and it offers a more customize cooling experience (learn more about the Corsair h80i GT at Corsair.com).

I have also included a PSU upgrade this month – that is the EVGA 650Watt P2, which is a Platinum rated PUS giving you an extra boost in power efficiency, which could save a tad on power as it uses it more efficiently. To learn more about the EVGA P2 specifications please visit the EVGA P2 information page.

Overview: $600 Gaming PC Build

Looking for a full bodied, great performing HD gaming pc build – then the entry level enthusiast $600 gaming PC build is for you. The October 2016 $600 gaming pc build of the month is for those wanting to game at standard HD resolutions (1080P) and wanting to get high settings with high FPS gaming – and quite honestly better than console gaming without a hiccup. This build has also gotten its well deserved pump in graphics with the newer AMD RX 470.

The gaming CPU in this $600 pc build, we have a Intel i3 6100. This is a dual core cpu clocked in at 3.7 GHz and paired with the brand new AMD RX470, then we are clear sailing. Please check out the benchmarks over at this digitalfoundry video you can see how very awesomely powered this graphics card is.

The motherboard has bee refreshed this month with the newer ASRock H170 PRO4. This motherboard was recently reviewed by TomsHardware is this review article and was well received for being well rounded for being a great motherboard for what the majority of gamers really need.

For RAM we have a kit of Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Kit DDR4 and for storage we have a a 120GB  Kingsotn Digital SSD. Now I know this may not be an ideal storage for all gamers, you can easily upgrade for a little more to a 256GB version or check the alternatives table below.

The power supply has been switched up again this month to the EVGA 500 W1, with enough juice to power this build all the way.

The PC case again for October to the Corsair Carbide Series 200R. This case has been around for a little bit and is a very reputable budget pc case to use. The Corsair Carbide 200R is quoted as being designed for Easy Builds and has the following overview form Corsair.com.

Check out the following video done a few years ago by HardwareCanucks (yes them again) on the Corsair 200R for a full overview – said to be a great budget oriented case well worth the cost, easy tool less design, excellent storage options and front direct airflow :

October 2016 (1080p) PC Build Upgrade Suggestions – ($852 With Upgrades Included)

These are the upgrade suggestions for specific hardware included in the above $600 / 1080p pc build. You can choose to upgrade one of all of the hardware and each will provide a performance boost for this build. If you choose to upgrade using all of the below hardware, the build becomes more like an $850 gaming pc build with a tad more gaming performance.

If you want to dial down those cpu temps you could always opt for a non-stock cpu cooler, such as the infamous Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (included in both of the other builds for quite some time).

One of the more important upgrade solutions could be the brand new AMD RX 470 graphics card and for the upgrades we have the AMD Sapphire Radeon RX 480, which is the suggested step up. This graphics card is also included in the $1000 gaming pc build.

You can increase your storage space by going with an affordable 480GB ADATA SSD (same version just higher capacity) as seen below, which is a great price for a large storage solution SSD and you could also simply go with the 256GB version for slightly more storage.

Finally,  included is a better performing gaming CPU, the Intel i5 6500, which may be a worthy investment to solidify performance in those higher cpu demanding games or future proofing.

BUILD COST WITH ALL BELOW UPGRADES: $852

CPU COOLER UPGRADE

Better CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO ($33.92)

GRAPHICS CARD UPGRADE

The new Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ Rx 480 8GB ($279.99)

Gaming PC Build Peripheral Considerations

The above $600 October 2016 gaming pc build does not include peripherals such as monitors, mice or keyboards. So please check out the gaming pc peripherals section should you need to purchase a monitor, mouse or keyboard for your new October 2016 gaming pc build. There are many suggestions generally split into three categories of higher-end, mid-range and basic suggestions. If you have any questions or want a suggestion feel free to leave a comment.

Operating System Options

If you don’t already have an operating system for your new gaming pc build, then you’re going to have to either invest in purchasing a standard OS such as Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10. Otherwise, there are some free alternatives that you could consider below as well. Keep in mind that you will need an optical drive should you decide to purchase the install discs, however you can also purchase Windows online or as a USB stick and install it that way – this would be the process for installing your OS without an optical drive (which isn’t included in each of the base builds above).

The following are some operating systems you can consider installing upon putting your Gaming PC build together. The first three will cost you and are either Windows 7 or 8.1, or 10 – I have no opinions here so I’ll leave the purchase of these up to the discretion of yourself, but do keep in mind that either way you do have the option of upgrading to Windows 10 for now. I have also included two other operating systems that are both currently free. Ubuntu is a Linux based operating system. The last OS is SteamOS, which is also a Linux OS being developed by Valve Corporation and is being made to be used for a Steam Machine game console.

  1. I added to the cart all the products of the 1500€ build and found myself some surprises. The total price was 1500+ when it was just 1260 for you.

I checked the prices and some of them are so weird. Following the 212 EVO cooler link it takes me to one that costs 5 times the prices written in the post. For instance, it also happened with the board.

Are the links wrong or Amazon Spain is expensive af ?

      Hi Jon,

So since you are being referred to Amazon Spain I assume you are from and looking for hardware from there as the links will re-direct to your local Amazon automatically. All of the prices I have quoted are in USD and reflective of the Amazon.com store as indicated by the note above each able is “(*Note: All prices are in USD but URLs go to your local Amazon)”. If you like I can see if I can put together a decently priced build through the Spain store? Is your budget 1500?

      1. Corey,

can you do a build from Spain Amazon ? That would be awesome!

My budget is around 1500€, yes. I don’t mind going a little bit further if it’s worth it, however, I also need a keyboard and mouse (for gaming if possible). Thanks !

          Hi Jon,

This should get you there, some things were priced oddly on the Spain store (such as the cpu cooler I had) so I put in a liquid one which was way cheaper for whatever reason.

          CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K Quad-Core Processor (€236.00)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (€119.00)
          Motherboard: Asus Z170-K ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€129.00)
          Memory: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (€92.20)
Storage: SK hynix SL308 500GB 2.5″ Solid State Drive (€165.42)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Founders Edition Video Card (€400.37)

Power Supply: XFX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (€117.30)

          Total: €1384.11

Leaves you room for a keyboard and mouse. Depending on your budget some mice and keyboard suggestions are in the November Builds here: https://newbcomputerbuild.com/newb-computer-build/november-2016-gaming-pc-builds-under-600-1000-1500

          Hope this helps!

          1. Thanks COREY!

Yesterday I bought an ASUS GeForce 8GB Dual-Fan OC Edition for 420€ (60 € priced down) and I will have to become Premium on Amazon to buy the Processor. Weird Amazon limitation but w/e. Also forgot the Windows key (30€).

Since it’s my first PC, could you provide a video on how to mount it ? I am a software engineer and I’ve opened many PC’s in the past but haven’t done it for years now! It would be perfect if the components were similar to the ones in the vid.

Lastly, just to make sure, could you check the component list (processor missing) ? https://s16.postimg.org/dta5ieq6t/img.png

              Hi Jon,

Nice job on getting the graphics card on sale, and I saw that you had to be a Prime member as well for the processor on the Spain site as well.

In order to mount, if you purchase it on USB, just plug it in once your build is done and since your new pc has a fresh new Hard Drive, it should just boot directly to Windows 10 install as it will be the only bootable medium.

If it doesn’t boot directly to Windows 10, you just need to access BIOS and select the USB as a boot drive (on the Asus motherboard you do this by holding the DELETE key on startup)

And you need to change the RAM in your build as it’s the wrong type you need one that fits 288pin RAM – try searching or following the link here to Ballistix Elite – RAM 8GB Kit – this one is 63.35 euro right now and compatible.

              1. Corey!

Yes I noticed the Ram was wrong. Right now I have this setup:
https://es.pcpartpicker.com/list/NbqpzM (some items appear priceless for some reason – video card (429€ on sale) & processor (236€) & ram (102.45€) are missing for me-, total is 1500€ more or less).

Regarding the setup, I was talking about mounting the components, not installing Windows.

Also, the mouse and keyboard you suggested in your post are out of stock or have an English layout. I already spent 1500€ but I am not sure I can make it cheaper without loosing quality, so any suggestion (component or peripheral-wise) is appreciated!

                Hey Jon,

                Looking good!

Sorry I mis-read what you meant. In terms of putting together hardware, I don;t have time to do a build video in the next little while as I don;t have the pieces laying around, but you could check out this old one from me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzbgLPlfk4I (not really a step by step)

But there are tons of build video out there! If you want an example let me know.

In terms of a mouse or keyboard you really don’t have to be too picky. What I would do first is see if you have spared laying around. Otherwise just choose a wired cheap mouse and keyboard…anything honestly works. Then later on something like the G502 mouse would be ideal with with its fine tuning and a mechanical keyboard for it’s satisfying clicking and smooth key strokes. You could also save a few bucks not getting that 3TB hard drive until you really really need the extra space.

You may need to make a new comment to reply as the max comments on the site max out after a certain number fyi

                Hope this helps!

  2. I am looking at a $600 build with these components:

CASE: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower Gaming Case
    POWER: EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR
    GRAPHICS CARD: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon™ RX 480 4GB GDDR5 256 bit Memory Bus PCI-Express 3.0 Graphisc Card (11260-02-20G)
HARD DRIVE: WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch Desktop Hard Drive (WD10EZEX)
    RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM – Black (HX318C10FB/8)
    MOTHERBOARD: ASUS H110M-A/M.2 LGA1151 DDR4 M.2 HDMI DVI USB3.0 H110 MicroATX Motherboard DIMM LGA 1150 Motherboards
CPU: Intel Boxed Core I5-6400 FC-LGA14C 2.70 Ghz + Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Liquid Cooler Bundle

I’d like to change the motherboard out, or at least explore all the options. I am not convinced on the October 2016 $600 suggested motherboard either. What are all the suitable options here? Maybe the one I listed is actually really good, so any expert conjecture would be appreciated.

Also, I was thinking of buying the liquid cooler bundle with the i5 processor. This a solid move on my part?

    1. I forgot ask: do you have any recommendations on monitors and keyboards/mouse? I only play PC with a PS3 controller so having a crazy gaming keyboard and mouse is not priority. I only need a decent mouse that clicks well and reliably, and a keyboard good for typing.

        Hi Luke,

Your build looks pretty good. My recommendation would be to switch out that 1TB drive for even a cheap SSD and then add storage when needed, trust me an SSD makes the world of a difference.

The motherboard you chose isn’t a terrible choice, I have switched board in this months builds, which I just posted. That motherboard you chose is a micro atx so it would have a little less features than a full ATX sized board, not a huge deal though.

As for a monitor, keyboard and mouse – do check out Novembers $600 build as I do have suggestions there this time, you should be good with a 1080p 60hz monitor, which are quite affordable. As for a cheap mouse and keyboard, honestly most any cheap one will do if you mostly use a controller – I would suggest a cheap mechanical keyboard if you were to use it more, but something like a Logitech K120 is really cheap and will do its job and and if you search “pc mouse” on amazon choose whatever is most affordable and you should be good! It’s only worth spending more if you would use them for gaming.

Let me know if you have any further questions 🙂
